AN EXHIBITION OF RARE ARCHIVAL PHOTOGRAPHS BY KULWANT ROY CURATED BY ADITYA ARYA

SCHEDULE
23th September | Geneva – WIPO
28th September | Bern, TBC

ABOUT
This exhibition has on display a rare and precious collection of photographs taken by press photographer Kulwant Roy between the 1930s and the 1960s. These images, along with thousands of others, remained forgotten in boxes for over twenty-five years after Roy’s death, until their inheritor Aditya Arya, the curator of this exhibition and a photographer himself, began cataloguing them. The images reveal a remarkable photographic record of modern Indian history, which has never been published. The exhibition, a real treasure-trove, has on display some of the rarest negatives and prints of Mahatma Gandhi, recently discovered and restored, including key black & white photos from India’s freedom struggle. Leading advertising photographer Aditya Arya’s focus, in recent years, has shifted to the art of photo-archiving and visual histories, largely inspired by the priceless collection bequeathed to him by Kulwant Roy. This also led to the creation of the India Photo Archive Foundation.
